Energy savings through low-investment measures
Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM) is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Germany. In its university strategy, THM has set itself the goal of firmly anchoring the topic of sustainability in university operations - with a clear vision: to become a CO2-neutral university by 2030. This means increasing energy efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions. In order to achieve this goal, THM relies on IngSoft InterWatt.
IngSoft InterWatt has already been in successful use at THM for many years. The software was introduced at the university in 2014, when the desire arose to organise its own energy management professionally. Maintaining energy consumption in Excel lists in a time-consuming and error-prone manner was not a long-term solution.
Criteria for selecting energy management software
When searching for suitable energy management software, the most important requirements were first defined: Energy consumption should be recorded automatically in future with the help of the software. Software-based consumption analyses should also be possible in order to specifically identify weak points and derive appropriate measures . The measures and anomalies identified should in turn be able to be documented in the software. It should also be possible to enter invoices. An important goal was to create energy cost transparency.
In addition, the software solution should be able to be used by several users and support the realisation of both commercial and technical tasks. Clarity and intuitive operation were therefore important criteria in the selection process. In addition, the software should also provide assistance in the creation of CO2 balances.
Various software providers were ultimately considered in the selection process. IngSoft InterWatt was chosen because the software fully met THM's requirements. Compared to the competition, IngSoft InterWatt was able to score points with a significantly larger number of functions and more flexible analysis options.
Rapid initial software installation
Once the selection had been made, the next step was to implement IngSoft InterWatt in the university's operations. The energy properties were quickly set up. The existing meters were then gradually entered into the software. Part of the implementation phase was also the IngSoft InterWatt basic training by IngSoft Customer Service, which provides users with basic knowledge of how to use the software.
Customer Service is also on hand to provide the university's users with help and advice during ongoing operations. After all, energy management is an ongoing process that must be constantly developed further - and this is also THM's aspiration. "Our experience with IngSoft's customer service has always been positive. The team provides very fast and competent support," says Erik Greß, who is jointly responsible for energy management at THM.

Energy savings through low-investment measures
The investment in IngSoft InterWatt has long since borne fruit at THM: weak points can now be quickly identified and tackled using specific energy parameters. Initially, the company focussed on energy-intensive buildings and took appropriate measures there. "We were very successful with these measures, some of which involved low investments," reports Erik Greß.
Further advantages of the software become apparent here: not only are deviations quickly apparent, but the success of measures taken can also be analysed and made transparent at any time. This makes IngSoft InterWatt an indispensable tool for the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen on its path to greater energy efficiency.
